I can always tell which is the front end of a horse, but beyond that, my art is not above the ordinary. - Mark Twain

Gulfport, MS - Map

Gulfcoast region hit hardest by hurricane Katrina.

January 2006  More than 6,000 pets were saved after hurricane Katrina according to officials and many have been relocated to homes throughout the country. But thousands of animals remain, running loose in neighborhoods where fences were destroyed and owners are gone. The Humane Society of Southern Mississippi, built to hold 75 animals is now holding about 250 dogs and cats, including 50 puppies. This is the largest shelter on the Mississippi coast. Workers are seeing more and more dog litters being brought in and it's not puppy season.

Repairs, supplies and volunteers are still desperately needed. If you're unable to physically be there and help, there are a number of ways you can still lend support to team and volunteer efforts in the Gulfport region.
